South Australia’s energy plan is evidence of the type of energy policy leadership Australia is severely lacking nationally from the Turnbull Government.

Fed up with Prime Minister Turnbull’s blame game and policy vacuum, the Weatherill Government’s intervention to source, generate and control more of South Australia’s power supply is a bold step that will help to secure a reliable, clean and affordable energy future for South Australia.

South Australia is doing what the Turnbull Government won’t do – take responsibility and put government action back at the centre of this strategic and vital industry.

Just this morning, Federal Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg again shifted the energy crisis blame to states, to businesses, to renewable energy, everybody other than himself – the Minister responsible for the nation’s energy system.

In sharp contrast, the Weatherill Government will introduce a new Energy Security Target, new incentives to increase gas supply, a new battery storage and renewable technology fund and a new government owned emergency gas generator.

The only plan the Prime Minister has is to use taxpayer funds to build ‘uninvestable’ coal-fired power stations.

Malcolm Turnbull is a shell of his former self, beholden to the hard-right of his party; he simply cannot deliver any sensible energy policy for the country.

States will continue to take charge, taking care of the supply of electricity for their citizens while the Turnbull Government sits on their hands.
